SHILLONG, APR 5: Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Tuesday said the state government will take action on information relating to the allegation on the use of army vehicles for transportation of drugs into the state.
He was referring to the order passed by the Meghalaya High Court on March 30, directing surprise checks on army vehicles following allegations that drugs are being transported in army trucks.
“We have to implement (the court order) if we get any information regarding transportation of drugs using the army vehicles,” Rymbui told reporters.
“When you transport any illegal consignment it is irrespective of any government or private vehicle that means you are conniving with the criminals and due process of law should take action on those people who are doing that,” he said.
Asked, Rymbui however said it is too premature to reply on the issue but “in the interest of the state, we don’t want anything to come into the state whether it is government vehicle or army vehicle.”
“It is the duty of the state to check that this menace of drugs should not be there in the state of Meghalaya,” he assured.
