SHILLONG, MAR 1: Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Tuesday assured that the state government will try to resolve the issue related to the pending salary of the SSA teachers within March 31.
His statement came a day after the Meghalaya SSA School Association (MSSASA) threatened to stage a protest march to the Secretariat demanding the government to release their five-month salary.
Stating that SSA is a very difficult subject, Rymbui said, “I feel pity for the people that for their own rights they have to come to the streets.”
He however said that the government is trying its best to ensure the necessary funds are released by the central government for the smooth implementation of the programme in the state.
“We are very happy that we are one of few states which has got the first full installment from the government of India and now all the necessary UCs we have submitted to the central government,” Rymbui said while informing that last week he was in Delhi to pursue for the early release of the second installment.
Urging the teachers to refrain from staging protests, the education minister said, “I hope that something could be done before March 31, with regards to the pending salaries. The government will try to do something after the budget session, which is slated from March 4 to 17.”
When asked, Rymbui said that the government in 2019 had sanctioned Rs 78 crore plus from the Corpus Fund to clear the pending salary of the SSA teachers.
“Having said after the budget session we will try to do something positive within March 31,” he further assured.
