Govt to neutralize group

SHILLONG, JUL 16: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday said that the two persons arrested in the IED blast incident at the Khliehriat police reserve are overground workers of the banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) even as he assured that the government will continue to neutralize anybody who tries to disturb the law and order in the state.

The two arrested by the East Jaintia Hills police have been identified as Nangpynphriang Rymbai (46) from Tongseng village and Mani Phawa (43) from Wapung Skur village.

“Yes, there are concerns as I said these are HNLC overground workers and action has been taken on that and will be taken. Further we will continue to neutralize anybody who tries to disturb the law and order in the state,” Sangma told reporters at a weekly press conference.

He informed that there are lots of initiatives being taken in this regard and “you will see the result of that very soon.”

The Chief Minister however said linking the incident to saying that militancy is coming back or this kind of power that they are having, would be overestimating the entire thing.

Asked if it was an intelligence failure that led to the incident, Sangma said, “No, intelligence is there but one cannot keep a watch on every individual movement that takes place or every single individual who tries to create these kinds of law and order problems.”

He also assured that more intelligence will go into finding out these activities and ensure that such incidents don’t take place in the future.

“The SP and the entire team are infact very efficiently working on this – all the intel that is required but sometimes incidents like these do happen and of course yes it shouldn’t happen at all so we have asked the district police force and even at the central headquarter level we are increasing the monitoring and intelligence level to ensure these kinds of incidents don’t take place,” Sangma added.
