SHILLONG, JUNE 19: The state government has decided to look into the queries put forth by the different political parties on the issue related to the state reservation policy for examination by the Expert Committee.
Addressing the media, Chairperson of the Committee of all political parties Ampareen Lyngdoh said, “We had given them (political parties) till today which is a date that they should submit all of their queries either to the chairperson of the committee of all political parties or to the chief minister or to the chief secretary and we will consolidate on all of these materials that we get. We will look into the kinds of queries that are being put forward because even before calling for an Expert Committee one must understand what are the questions that are being asked by the various political parties, various NGOs, various members who will seek information on the latest mind of the government on the evaluation and review of the reservation policy.”
Stating that the matter will take some time, she said, “We hope that we will be able to draw the exact queries and make sure that we have experts for such queries who will be able to substantiate a legal scrutiny. We must ensure that whatever the state does it does with that in mind. So I will get on the job ASAP and I hope I will be able to update the public through the media at a correct and an appropriate time.”
When asked, Lyngdoh, who is also cabinet minister, said that the Cabinet had just come up with the latest Office Memorandum regarding the application of the reservation roster in the interest of the public of the state of Meghalaya.
She informed that the 3-member search committee headed by the Chief Secretary DP Wahlang has been put in position and will not go ahead and invite experts in various lines and said, “We want to ensure that a committee when it sits is substantiated by individuals who have the expertise to comment on certain matters.”
