SHILLONG, MAR 12: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today said in the Assembly that his government will immediately hold talks with the Assam government on resolving the issue related to the boundary dispute after the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
“We as a cabinet has proposed that after the Lok Sabha polls will initiate talk with our counterpart in Assam to move forward and find solution to this sensitive and emotion issue,” Sangma said while replying to the debate on the Governor’s address on Tuesday.
The chief minister also assured the House that the state government will take every step to ensure protection and safety of the people residing along the inter-state border.
On the other hand, Sangma further claimed that the state government has been able to stop a lot of incidents from creating problem in the inter-state border as he extended his congratulations to the district administrations and police.
According to him, there is only about 5-10 percent of the incidents that have happened and the state government is making effort to ensure that such incidents do not take place at all.
Earlier during the debate on the recent address by the governor, opposition members have expressed concern over the attack by the Assam police on the villagers at Umwali village near Langpih in West Khasi Hills District.
