SHILLONG, APR 4: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today said the state government is still working to clear the pending arrear of SSA teachers which amounts to approximately Rs 70 crore.
“We are still working on it,” Conrad said after meeting a delegation of the Meghalaya Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Schools’ Association (MSSASA) who expressed their gratitude and appreciation to the government for releasing their Rs 135 crore five-month pending salary.
Urging the teachers to be real stakeholders, the chief minister said if all the stakeholders including government plays their role, the quality of the education sector in the state will further improved.
Earlier, the SSA teachers also felicitated the chief minister with bouquet and a traditional shawl. They had also met the education minister Lahkmen Rymbui as a mark of appreciation on his role to ensure over 12,000 teachers get their pending dues.
In a statement issued here, MSSASA president Aristotle Rymbai, while expressing gratitude to swift action taken by the government said, “The chief minister and his team had proved that nothing is impossible if we have the desire and willingness to help the people and solve their problems.”
He also expressed hope that the government would also speed up the release of the eight months pending arrear of the last financial year 2016-17 as assured by the chief minister.
