Shillong, Sept 29:“Teachers are the only people who are engaged in a special employment which helps in disseminating education and knowledge to the people in the society,” said former Rajya Sabha MP Prof. BB Dutta Saturday.
Dutta felt the teaching profession bring a closer relationship between students and teachers. Addressing at the 30th General Conference of the Meghalaya College Teachers’ Association (MCTA) at Dinam Hal, he said the state government should provide a policy for philosophy education in Meghalaya while saying India is very rich in philosophy education.
Dutta said, “Most of the policies giving multi-structure education do not give better education philosophy.” Stressing on the previous agitations called by the MCTA, he said that they should always fight for their right but with a good knowledge and understanding.
Dutta also said that certain efforts must be made to improve the quality of education in all colleges.
MCTA president Dr. CR Lyngdoh said that over the past few years the MCTA general conference has spoke volumes of enthusiasm reflecting the importance it give to education in the society at large.
Lyngdoh also said that the introduction of post-semester system is another matter of concern which the college teachers have to face in the near future. He said, “Changes and development in higher education are inevitable and the teachers have to adapt to these changes.”
Lyngdoh, however, observed that in recent years, higher education has isolated itself from the society. He felt organizing awareness programmes are important so as to bring higher education closer to societies. By Our Reporter
