Govt sets target to achieve 100% vaccination before Christmas

SHILLONG, NOV 3: The state government on Wednesday set a target to fully vaccinate all eligible citizens against COVID-19 before Christmas.

Informing this, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said, “We want to see that the vaccination process reaches 100 percent within this festive season which means before Christmas we will be targeting that we should achieve 100 percent.”

“With that motive we have also planned out a few points, will be finalizing them in a day or two and will be pushing for more vaccination in the coming weeks and coming month,” he added.

Sangma said that the government has made up its mind to achieve this target to ensure people can enjoy the festive seasons and move out more freely.

Till yesterday, a total of 17,61,836 people have been vaccinated of which 11,06,319 have completed the first dose and 6,55,517 have taken both the doses.

Earlier, the Chief Minister also attended a meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for discussion about the COVID-19 vaccination in the country.

Sangma informed that East Garo Hills deputy commissioner is among the nine deputy commissioners which had a direct interaction with the prime minister.

He said this is because East Garo Hills is one of the districts where the amount of vaccination is less than the national average, adding although it is about 50 per cent but it is still below the national average.

The Prime Minister has also given suggestions to all the districts how to improve the vaccination process in their respective jurisdiction.

When asked, Sangma said, “From our point as chief ministers, the prime minister wanted us to be there so that this matter would be taken up seriously.”

The other districts with the lowest vaccination coverage include Rajasthan, Manipur, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.
