Minister in-charge Health and Family Welfare Ampareen Lyngdoh Thursday sought a report into the death of a 23-year-old patient at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS).
“I had sought a full report on the incident,” Lyngdoh said while refusing to comment further on the matter until the report is submitted by the NEIGRIHMS authority.
Her statement came after family members of the patient, who passed away on January 24, had allegedly held the hospital for medical negligence. They had claimed that the surgery was performed on the patient without obtaining consent or informing them about the nature of the sickness.
Terming the incident as unfortunate, the health minister however said she doesn’t want to mislead the people on the matter and hence she will first study the report before giving any comments.
Lyngdoh further said that though NEIGRIHMS is a central institute yet the state government acts as the eyes and ears and the voice of the people and when such an unfortunate incident occurs, the government will report to the central government for intervention.
