Govt seeking report on exorbitant fees by pvt institutions

SHILLONG, AUG 8: The education department has decided to seek a report from private educational institutions with regards to their fee structure.

This came after complaints received against the alleged exorbitant fees charged by privately run educational institutions in the state.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, education minister Rakkam A Sangma said that the issue has been raised by students and also NGOs from time to time.

“We have sought reports from institutions, even from private universities, just to make a comparative study,” he said.

When asked, the minister said that the department has been asked to collect all data related to the fees charged by the different institutions.

“Accordingly, we will decide and issue some advisory,” he added.

According to him, the matter will be discussed and worked out with the institutions. He said there are private institutions which have very little support from the government.

Earlier, a delegation of the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) had sought the minister’s intervention to fix and regulate fees in government aided and private educational institutions in the state.
