SHILLONG, MAY 30: The state government has sought funding under the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for construction of the Shillong-Mawngap-Mawphlang to Mawsynram up to Ranikor junction.
“We have proposed one more project but we are yet to get the commitment of the Japan government,” Deputy Chief Minister in-charge PWD (Roads) Prestone Tynsong told reporters after a meeting with the Minister & Deputy Chief of Mission Embassy of Japan, Kawazu Kunihiko on Monday.
He said that the government wanted to improve the road from Shillong-Mawngap-Mawphlang to Mawsynram up to Ranikor junction.
During the meeting, Tynsong also conveyed his gratitude to the government of Japan for extending financial support to the Meghalaya government.
The JICA projects include the Shillong-Dawki road and 127 (b) National Highway. The total amount of these two projects is to the tune of Rs 2,000 crore.
“While the construction of the Shillong-Dawki road has started, we will soon take up the construction of National Highway 127 (b) which will connect Shillong-Nongstoin-Tura road,” Tynsong said.
The deputy chief minister had asserted the need to have exchange programmes between the technical experts of the two countries so that the best practices can be replicated in Meghalaya.
