SHILLONG, MAY 31: To resolve the issue of unemployment in the state, the Meghalaya government will start its own “placement-link” with reputed companies of the country targeting placement opportunities for more than 5000 youths of the state.
Addressing the graduation day of the IL&FS Institute of Skills at Dhanketi on Friday Meghalaya C&RD department principal secretary KN Kumar said, “The government is thinking of having its own placement-link to partner with reputed companies to increase job recruitments from the State.”
Kumar informed the gather that the Meghalaya government has already floated bids and the response has been good as reputed companies and institutes have also participated in the bids.
Kumar said that the government is targeting training more than five thousands youths and place them with reputed companies as soon as the training is over. He informed that the government’s the goal is to cover as many youths as is possible.
Congratulating the IL&FS students on their successful completion of the training, Kumar advised the students to have patience when they get placement outside the state. He said, “One should give a fair chance as the important thing of this trade is to stick to the job for at least one year before one decides to either give up or shift to another organization.”
Forty students of which were twenty-one boys and nineteen girls of the first batch successfully completed the 252 hours training on Hospitality Trade – ‘Certificate program for F&B Services’ in the IL&FS Institute. The training was sponsored by the directorate of tourism and specialized training on hospitality domain, special exposure to training on communicative English, IT and soft skills were also imparted.
IL&FS Institute of Skills director Subhra Ray told this website that a total of eight male students out of the forty have so far got placement in reputed companies in hospitality.
Of the eight , three have been taken by JW Marriott – a chain of premiere 5star hotels in Bangaluru with a monthly salary of Rs 11500 and the remaining five got the job with Aloft Hotel in Coimbator, Karnataka with a monthly salary of Rs 8500.
Roy also informed that placement is going on for the remaining students. He said, , “Many more recruiters have lined up for the coming week and we are determined to assure quality placements to all those who have passed out of our institute.”
The IL&FS Institute of Skills has so far given placement to 1100 out of 1400 youths the institute trained in the eight centres in Meghalaya that are located in Shillong (East Khasi), Khliehriat (East Jaintia), Barapani, Umsning (Ri Bhoi) and Rongjeng, Williamnagar and Lumrangpara in Garo hills.
