SHILLONG, JAN 18: The state government has allowed transporation of coal which have been loaded from the sites before the recent order passed by the Supreme Court on January 15.
In an order issued on Friday, Commissioner & Secretary in-charge Mining & Geology department Tining Dkhar said, “In partial modification of this department’s order, tranporation of coal in the state shall be permitted and regulated with immediate effect.”
He said the coal which had been loaded from the sites and in transit before the order of the Supreme Court and having valid documents will be allowed to transport.
The coal which has originated outside the state of Meghalaya and being transported through the State of Meghalaya for consumption by factories, general household or export will also be allowed to transport, Dkhar said.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner & Secretary said no challan wil be issued for transportation of coal in the state after the January 15 order of the Supreme Court.
“All authorities concerned are hereby directed to ensure compliance of the directions so as to ensure compliance of the Supreme Court order,” he said.
The Supreme Court has banned the transportation of coal from the state of Meghalaya till February 19.
“Till the next date of hearing there would not be any transportation of any coal lying on the sites,” the court said in its order passed on Tuesday.
Earlier in its order passed on December 4, last year, the Supreme Court had allowed transportation of already extracted and assessed coal lying in the different parts of the state till January 31.
As on May 31, 2018 the amount of extracted and assessed coal which is yet to be transported is around 1, 76,655 metric tons.
