SHILLONG, JULY 5: An enforcement official from the Meghalaya transport department was on Friday arrested red handed for taking Rs 5,000 as part of the first installment of Rs 10,000 bribe he had demanded from a goods transporter for obtaining road permits.
The enforcement official identified as Deibor Mitre Kyndiah, from Dulong village in West Jaintia Hills district and currently posted as an enforcement checker at the district transport office was arrested by the police after he took bribe from the transporter.
The transporter had filed an FIR on Saturday alleging that on Thursday Kyndiah had demanded the bribe for providing him with the road permits he need for transporting the goods.
East Khasi hills SP (city) Vivek Syiem told reporters that personnel from the district special cell laid a trap and nabbed Kyndiah while taking Rs 5000 as first installment for issuing of road permit.
Syiem informed Kyndiah was arrested in the afternoon and he is likely to be produced in court later in the evening.
Kyndiah was arrested after the police had sought the support of the general public to inform them if any government officials demand bribe to do their job.-By Our Reporter
