Govt offices shutdown in GH

TURA, MAR 25: The Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) on Wednesday called for a two-day shutdown of government offices across Garo hills on March 26 and 27. The outfit stated that the shutdown would not impose any restrictions in public and vehicular movement but only government offices.

“We appeal to our fellow Garo friends to understand the depth of grievance and co-operate with us”, said Garo Mandei Marak, joint
publicity secretary of the outfit in a release issued today.

The outfit has called the shutdown as government has failed to respond to the demand of the outfit on the alleged “fake encounter” of
Sengbath Marak, son of village headman of Oragitok in West Garo Hills, who was killed on March 4. The outfit is of the view that Sengbath is
innocent and was framed by the police.

The outfit said that they would intensify their protest unless and until the state government responds to their demands. The outfit also informed
that the indefinite bandh at Ampati in South West Garo hills would continue with relaxation on Saturday and Sunday.

The strike at Ampati began on March 9.

The outfit has demanded that anti-Garo policies of Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma should be curtailed for the larger interest of
the people. The outfit has also criticized the chief minister for his comment of terming media as “publicity house of militants.”- By Our Correspondent
