Govt happy with positive steps on peace talks

SHILLONG, MAR 31: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday said positive steps are being taken from both the interlocutors and the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) – to take the peace talks forward.

Sangma said the interlocutor has started the process of calling different individuals to coordinate the discussion when asked on the recent HNLC’s decision to appoint Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) chief Sadon K Blah as its representative to pursue the peace dialogue with the government.

“Therefore, there has been communication for people who will be in touch and would contact people to coordinate the discussions. So those discussions at that level have started,” he told reporters.

“Once the entire atmosphere and the coordination and discussion are taking place, only then will the official discussion start at the later stage,” the CM added.

Refusing to divulge any further fearing that it will only jeopardize the overall discussion, Sangma said but the important part is that the process has started and the process will continue and that step by step it will be taken up to the next level.

“The interlocutor will be in a better position to say but as far as the government is concerned we are happy to see that there is a positive step from both sides and the interlocutor and from the HNLC side that there are steps being taken to take the discussion and the talks forward,” he said.
