SHILLONG, APR 5: The state government has further delayed to take a call on the appointment of the new Director General of Police (DGP) of the state.
“We will decide at an appropriate time. As a government, we will see that the best person is appointed as the new DGP at the earliest,” Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui told reporters on Tuesday.
The names shortlisted by the UPSC are Mukesh Agrawal, KV Singh Deo (both 1989 batch) and L Ram Bishnoi (1991 batch).
Out of the five names sent by the state government earlier after the retirement of R Chandranathan on December 21, 2021, the UPSC selected three following the guidelines of the Supreme Court.
The other two are S. Narayan Singh (1991 batch) and Idashisha Nongrang (1992 batch). Nongrang is functioning as the officiating DGP.
On the allegation that there is a strong lobby to appoint Assam’s Special Director General of Police, Lajja Ram Bishnoi as new Meghalaya DGP, Rymbui however said, “People can allege but when the process is on so it is duty of the government to do at the earliest.”
