Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the government is committed to the welfare of each and every citizen of the State.
Acknowledging the contribution of the hawkers and street vendors to the basic economy of the state, the chief minister said that the government is aware of the problems and issues being faced by them.
“We are committed to the welfare of the hawkers so that they can also move forward in life”, Conrad said.
He further stressed on the need for a balanced approach to tackle the challenges and difficulties in order to arrive at a solution acceptable to all.
“The government is with you and we want to work with you but it is not easy for us to do everything the way we want to do, we have to work within a certain frame work and in a systematic manner”, he told the gathering.
The chief minister also told the gathering that the Government is contemplating on the idea of setting up vending points for hawkers in areas which will be mutually beneficial to the vendors as well as the public.
Meanwhile, he also urged upon all stakeholders to work together with sincerity and commitment towards finding an amicable and lasting solution.
