SHILLONG, MAR 19: The state government has assured that the load shedding being imposed from Saturday midnight would be discontinued in the next 48 hours as payment has been made to clear the outstanding dues to NEEPCO.
The North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd (NEEPCO) has decided to regulate power supply in the state after the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MePDCL) failed to clear outstanding dues of Rs 504.41 crore.
In a statement issued on Friday, Power Minister James K Sangma said consequently, the state government has been working hard to look into the matter was able to resolve the issue.
“Payment has been credited to NEEPCO, however, due to procedural issues, NEEPCO is unable to cancel the regulation notice immediately,” he said.
“We understand and empathise with the students who are preparing for their examinations and we regret the inconvenience caused to the public in general,” James said as he assured the public and consumers that load shedding will be discontinued in the next 48 hours.
In view of this, the MePDCL has decided to impose load shedding starting from March 20.
