Govt bias : JSU, JYF

SHILLONG, APR 28: Ngos have accused the state government of being ‘bias” to the issue of extension of the validity of the merit list of eligible candidates declared by District Selection Committees (DSCs) in the different districts of the state.

The Jaintia Youth Federation (JYF) and Jaintia Students Union (JSU) in a petition submitted to the state chief secretary PBO Warjri alleged this and sought his intervention after the state government refused to grant extension to the merit list for the post of Forest Guard and Demonstrator in Jaintia Hills.

“The prayer for extension of validity of the merit list prepared by the DSC, Jaintia Hills, was not considered on different grounds, while the validity of the merit list prepared by the DSC of West Khasi Hills District have been extended for a period of six months by the Under Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Personnel & AR (B) Department not once or twice but for several times,” the presidents of JYF and JSU – Poipynhun Majaw and Rikut N Parien said in the petition.

The extension granted for the merit list of the DSC, West Khasi Hills District was for the post of LDA/Sectional Assistant/Gram Sevak/Tracer.

Terming the refusal of the government as bias, they said, “The action of the state government in following different yardstick while dealing with the same issue of extension of validity of the merit list prepared by the DSC of different districts within the same state indicates the ‘apparent biasness’ on the part of the government which is highly condemnable by all righteous mind.”

According to them, the replies sent by the government to the aggrieved candidates from Jaintia Hills were that the validity of the merit list cannot be extended.

The DSC of erstwhile Jaintia Hills District had declared the result of exam conducted for the post of Forest Guard and has given the merit list of the same. Similarly, the post of Demonstrator (KTC), the DSC were also declared with merit list.- By Our Reporter
