SHILLONG, SEP 7: Adviser to the education department Himalaya Shangpliang on Thursday said the State government has taken necessary steps to ensure there is no delay in releasing the salary of over 12,000 SSA teachers in Meghalaya.
“We have taken steps to ensure that SSA teachers will never suffer due to delay in releasing their salaries,” Shangpliang told reporters.
He said that the Meghalaya SSA Schools’ Association (MSSASA) had recently organized a function to honor the state government for its effort to address and resolve the issues concerning the teachers.
“They (MSSASA) are very happy. The state government is now clearing all their pending arrears. The arrears which were supposed to be released before Christmas have been cleared today. This has not happened in the previous years,” he said.
Shangpliang further informed that the state government is in the process of filling up 1200 vacant posts of lower primary teachers. “We have decided to appoint candidates, who have cleared the Meghalaya Teachers’ Eligibility Test (MTET) examination, for filling up these vacancies,” he said.
According to him, the state government is taking up various measures to improve the standard of education so that it will be at par with the rest of the country.
