SHILLONG, DEC 16: Chairperson of the National Commission for Safai Karamchari M Venkatesan on Thursday urged the Meghalaya government to start a State Commission for Safai Karamcharis.
During his visit to the state, Venkatesan met the Safai Karamchari of Shillong and took stock of the problems faced by the employees of the municipal boards. The meeting was held in presence of the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) CEO and other government officials.
Different employees aired their problems faced by them which includes gratuity , jobs on compassionate ground , and regularisation of old employees amongst others .
Venkatesan heard and tried to resolve a number of issues of the employees and he also informed that he would be meeting the Governor of Meghalaya Satya Pal Malik and Meghalaya Chief minister Conrad Sangma and apprise them about the problems faced by the municipal employees and try to resolve them as soon as possible .
Venkatesan also informed that he would also urge the CM to form a state commission for the Safai Karamcharis which would help the employees air their issues in near future.
