Govt approves rolling out of MHIS-IV

SHILLONG, JULY 25: The state Cabinet has approved the proposal for implementation of the Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) Phase-IV in convergence with Centre’s health protection scheme launched under Ayushman Bharat Programme.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting held here on Wednesday, Health Minister AL Hek said, “We have approved the implementation of the MHIS phase-IV by converging with the central scheme.”

He said that health coverage under this phase has been increased from Rs 2.8 lakh to Rs 5 lakh per household adding that the scheme would cover all citizens of the state excluding government employees.

Unlike the earlier phases of the MHIS, the minister said that the health scheme would also cover investigations of sickness as well as treatment.

On the other hand, Deputy chief minister, Prestone Tynsong said that under the MHIS phase-IV, a total of 8.8 lakh families would be covered under the health scheme in the state.

“This will be a very good sign for the people of the state,” he added.
