Govt all set to come up with veterinary, dairy and fisheries colleges in Meghalaya

SHILLONG, JUNE 9: The state Cabinet on Thursday approved the proposal for setting up of three colleges which include a veterinary college, dairy college and fisheries college in the state.

Informing this after the meeting, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma told reporters that the veterinary college and the dairy college will be set up at Kyrdemkulai in Ri Bhoi district while the fisheries college will be in Garo Hills.

He however said that the exact location for fisheries college will be decided once the fisheries department submitted the details of the different options that are there but it will be in Garo Hills region.

When asked about the capacity intake of these colleges, the chief minister said, “we are hopeful the intake in all the three colleges will be between 60-100 (students) anaully.”

Meanwhile, the cabinet has also approved the Meghalaya District Courts (Ministerial) Amendment Rules.

Sangma said this was done based on the communication from the Meghalaya High Court.

In a nutshell, this would enable the district courts to employ or to take people and conduct the interviews at the district level like it is being done in the district selection committees instead of it being conducted by the high court, he added.
