Shillong, Sept 9: Extreme adventure is not for the “faint hearted”, but if you just give it a spin and include a social cause it might just attract fair numbers of “good Samaritans” along with the “bravehearts.”
Little wonder that sixty-five auto rickshaws teams from twenty countries took off from Shillong to cover 3,500 kms long of length bound for Jaisalmer in Rajasthan. This includes 30 women
And this arduous and often dangerous journey is to raise 100,000 pound for wide range of charities including providing clean drinking water in rural villages in India.
The run would round up on September 22.
Flagged off by Meghalaya former home minister RG Lyngdoh the auto rickshaw race called “Adventurists” is organized by a not-for-profit Britian based ngo Frank Water that works to provide clean drinking water in rural villages in India.
The uniqueness of this ‘Rickshaw Run’ is that no prize will be waiting at the end of the finishing line, but lots of back-slapping, champagne and, yes, take-home tales to bore grandchildren.
This run will surely be one of the most toughest adventure in the world as the trip on three-wheeled auto rickshaws is an extreme, one of a kind, fortnight adventure of mud, sweat, mountains, jungles, deserts and possibly through the worst roads in the world, manager of the event Matthew Dickens said.
So far the adventure has so far raised 50,000 pound for charities by the Frank Water Project in Andhra Pradesh.- By Our Reporter
