SHILLONG, NOV 7: The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) on Tuesday opposed against the move of the BJP led NDA central government to observe the National Good Governance Day on “Christmas”.
In a statement issued, KHNAM-state youth wing president Thomas Passah said, “We strongly oppose this decision as such move only reflects the agenda of the BJP and its close relationship with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).”
He said last year, the centre had announced December 25 as the National Good Governance Day where all offices were directed to function.
Passah questioned the reason behind the decision to specifically schedule the day for observing the national good governance day on Christmas and not on the celebrations of Holi and Pujas.
“Such decision to direct not only offices but educational institutions to open during Christmas should be strongly condemned from all sides,” he said while holding the BJP responsible for the atrocities against churches.
Terming the decision as “disrespect” to the Christian community, Passah said, “This is also a violation by the BJP and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi against the constitution of India.”
Meanwhile, the KHNAM also appealed to all educational institutions to opposed against the decision of BJP centre government.
Passah said KHNAM wants the intervention of the state government into the issue by making a public announcement that the state will continue to declare December 25 as a state holiday as it is a Christmas day.-By Our Reporter
