GNLA threat: Steps taken

AMPATI, MAY 4: South West Garo hills district administration said it has taken serious note of the renewed threat to the public transporters by the GNLA and said it has taken immediate steps to ensure peace and normalcy in the district. A government press statement said the fresh threat by the GNLA had affected the movement of the people, especially the students in the district in general and Ampati in particular.

The district’s deputy commissioner Ram Singh said that the district administration, which has the full support of the people of Ampati, has decided to requisition sufficient number of buses and ply them under security cover through different routes across the district.

Singh informed that all the departments have been directed to continue with their programmes, projects and other civil works and to approach the district administration for any kind of support.

Singh said delp desks have also been set up both in the office of the Deputy Commissioner (8135873854) and Ampati Police Station (9856090310) for the convenience of the people.

The district police are also reviewing the situation in view of the threat and have enhanced mobile patrolling, naka checking and picket points in all sensitive areas of the district.

Meanwhile, Singh has also informed that the Skill Fest-cum-Job Fair, 2015 will be held on May 6 and 7 at Ampati mini stadium as scheduled and will be inaugurated by the chief minister Mukul Sangma. The administration is making all necessary arrangements for the same, he said, adding that thousands of unemployed youth from the district are expected to participate.- By Our Reporter
