SHILLONG, MAR 27: The banned Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) militant outfit on Thursday served three-day ultimatum to the state government demanding clarification on the list of mediators it had sent to the union government even as it warns election campaigners from campaigning for the Congress in Garo hills region.
“The state government should come out clear whether Mukul had recommended the three names of mediators and sent for approval to the centre government,” GNLA political affairs secretary Bikdot Nikjang Marak said in a statement issued on Thursday.
The GNLA also warned that till chief minister Mukul Sangma clarifies on this particular issue, election campaigners campaigning and holding election meetings within Garo Hills for the Congress party must stop. Marak said in the statement, “Nobody shall carry posters, banners, symbols of Indian National Congress (INC) till chief minister Mukul Sangma clarifies.”
Marak also warned that the outfit has also directed area commanders to shoot at the legs with three bullets for violations the GNLA diktat.
Marak said that the GNLA could not digest how chief minister Mukul Sangma and union home secretary Sambhu Singh contradicted each other on the of mediators.
According to Marak, while Mukul released statement that his government had already recommended the names of 3 mediators and sent for approval to the centre to start the process of peace talks, Sambhu however denied having any knowledge about it and said that it had not come to his level.
Who is making irresponsible statement then, Marak questioned while demanding clarification as to whether there was any communication gap between the two responsible persons.
The outfit also lambasted governor KK Paul who invited the GNLA for talks but left his mission halfway.
“He (Governor) seems to be a mere rubber stamp, a puppet in the hands of Mukul, a living shadow in the Government of Meghalaya. He is ceremonial figure simply reciting the lyrics written by Mukul,” Marak said adding “The GNLA didn’t beg for bakery and if situation arises GNLA is ready for any eventuality.” – By Our Reporter
