Shillong, October 27: Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) commander-in-chief Sohan D Shira’s brother-in-law was arrested early on Sunday morning and huge cache of arms and ammunition besides cash worth lakhs of rupees in Bangaldeshi currency was seized by the police from the residence of militant leader.
Police raided Sohan’s house at about 4 am on Sunday located at Nengmandalgre under Williamnagar PS in South Garo hills district. The GNLA leader’s brother-in-law Ponte Ch Momin was arrested.
The police raiding team recovered and seized – Rs 3, 34, 100, 63, 000 BD Taka, one 9 mm country made pistol with 2 magazines, 16 9mm live ammo, four claymore box, 15 meters of safety fuse wire, 39 detonators, 23 mobile phones, 34 batteries, one Sony digital camera, one Polaroid camera, one Kodak digital camera, one portable color monitor, one roll of speaker cable, one roll of PBC wire, 11 assorted SIM cards.
The seized items also included four solar charger LED lights, two jars of assorted electrical equipments, one Micromax tablet, two electrical measuring devices, five internet dongles, one diary of Sohan, one satellite phone, two registers (maintaining accounts), one set of uniform, list of MPDA GR NOS, two electrical converter and lots of flexible wire.
Police will try and glean information from Momin from where the seized items came and what the militant organization was planning to do with it.- By Our Reporter
