SHILLONG, MAR 22: The Garo National Council (GNC) has decided to extend its full support to the opposition Congress nominee for the Tura seat and former chief minister Mukul Sangma in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls to be held on April 11.
The decision was taken at a meeting held at Ruga Doni Bajar under Chokpot in the presence of GNC MLA of the constituency Lazarus M Sangma on Friday.
Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the Garo Hills State Movement Committee (GHSMC) Nikman Ch Marak said that late Purno A Sangma raised the issue of separate Garoland state only once in parliament but remained silent after that.
“In the last elections we supported the NPP but this time we will not support NPP candidate Agatha Sangma as her father late Purno A Sangma has lied to us. We will not allow them to fool us again” said Marak.
Asserting the need to oppose the Citizenship Amendment Bill, he said, “If the NPP wins there will be a danger to the people of this region as they are the coalition partner of BJP led NDA government in the centre.”
Marak further announced that their decision to extend full support to the INC candidate Dr Mukul M Sangma in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls even as he urged the people of Garo Hills to vote for change in order to save the region from BJP.
