SHILLONG, JULY 25: The effort of Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma to preserve and conserve the environment of the state seems to have paid off with Germany agreeing to provide new technologies to the state to protect the environment.
The assurance for providing the latest technology for preservation of the environment came following a meeting of Sangma with the German delegation led by Dr Utta Bolhoef on Thursday.
Sangma along with his officers discuss at length on how to conserve the environment from degeneration and also dwell on various programmes linked to climate change.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting with Sangma at the state secretariat, Bolhoef said that the German Development Council (GDC) is willing to showcase what could be done to protect environment in Meghalaya. She said after that the state government needs to roll out the new technology and share with communities and other states.
Bolhoef said, “We acknowledge the kind of commitment the chief minister has on climate change which is a threat particularly to the north eastern region.”
During the meeting, the state government’s engagement with the GDC was discussed besides option on how to incorporate additional components of intervention.
Sangma later informed that the meeting also dwelt on the proposals that are pending for clearance with the union government.
Sangma said, “We discussed on how to carry forward the proposals and implement it effectively to ensure that it is a success so that Meghalaya will be different from other states on conservation of environment.- By Our Reporter
