SHILLONG, SEPT 18: The twenty-five activists of the Garo Hills State Movement Committee (GHSMC) who were arrested have been quietly transferred to the district jail of Jowai from Tura jail amidst tight security on Tuesday. The activists have been arrested by the Tura police after it was alleged that they had manhandled government employees including women employees in the deputy commissioner office in Tura.
Justifying the transfer of the GHSMC activists to the Jowai jail the West Garo hills deputy commissioner Pravin Bakshi said moving them to Jowai was important as their security was of paramount importance as there was no bonhomie between them and other inmates. He, however, said the case was still in Tura and bail could be requested from Tura court itself.
The parents of the arrested were surprised and disappointed when they went to meet their wards in the Tura jail as they were informed that they had been moved to Jowai district jail.- By Our Reporter
