TURA, SEPT 28: A dance troupe from Garo hills will share stage at the Indian Super League opening ceremony on Saturday. Artists from Damas Youth Forum will perform the famed Wangala dance at Sarusajai stadium in Guwahati as part of the opening ceremony of the most awaited ISL season – 3.
The team is already in Guwahati rehearsing their act.
“We are excited to be part of the mega showdown as we will be able to showcase our rich culture and rendition of the Garos”, said Manseng Momin of Damas Youth Forum, an NGO based in North Garo hills.
The women dancers would welcome the teams in the opening match, while the male drummers would be performing at the ceremony. The artists of the organisation had earlier performed at various programme in Haryana, Punjab, Manipur, Nagaland and Kerala, amongst others.
In January this year, they had performed at the opening ceremony of the South Asian Games. “We are really fortunate to have been recognized for our dance. The various shows done by us has provided us an opportunity to bring awareness about the Garo culture and traditions and also bring more interest in the Wangala dance form,” Momin stated.-From Our Correspondent
