SHILLONG, JULY 31: The BJP in Meghalaya demanded the removal of the Director General of Police (DGP) and the Superintendent of Police (SP) of West Garo Hills District for the deteriorating law and order problems in the five districts of Garo Hills.
The demand also came after three policemen died when an IED planted by the GNLA went off at the narrow roads of Tebronggre, 25 km from Tura, in West Garo Hills District recently.
In a statement issued by the BJP state vice president David Ch Marak on Thursday, he said the home department should immediately remove (transfer not in Garo-Hills) the state DGP PJP Hanaman and the West-Garo-Hills SP Mukesh Kr. Singh for failing to tackle militancy problem in Garo hills and replace by a suitable and reasonable officer to bring back normalcy in the region.
Marak said the BJP also condemns the killing of policemen who were patrolling in the area He said for Garo hills residents the situation has become so bad that they “Wait with tension” as they do not khow when and where one would be killed.
Marak also said the present situation of Garo hills suggests that the policy makers of the state have not found any amicable solution to normalize or to prevent killings of the innocent people.
Marak also said that if one goes by the records, the indigenous Garos including the Nokmas, have died more than the settlers from other states. He said the worst is the custodial death.
Marak also felt that mere imposition of president’s rule in the state will not be the lasting solution to the people as more indigenous and innocent Garos may die in the action.- By Our Reporter
