Gangrape case

SHILLONG, MAY 10: Three persons were recently arrested for allegedly gang-raping a 17-year-old minor girl in a village under West Khasi Hills District.The incident took place on May 7, when the victim was dragged on an auto rickshaw and raped by the accused persons in a nearby jungle.The arrested persons have been identified as Raplang Kharmuti, Johny Warjri and Tony Basaiawmoit.According to sources, it was due to the cooperation of the dorbar shnong of a village near Mairang, police was able to nab all the culprits involved in the crime.It was also informed that Kharmuti  is known to the victim because he was her friend’s husband. Meanwhile, the victim was also immediately hospitalized and later released after medical treatment. It may be mentioned this is seventh gang-raped case reported in the state since January 1, this year. Juveniles were also arrested for their involvement in at least two such cases of gang-raped earlier this year.
