SHILLONG, MAY 1: Union Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari on Friday announced Rs 630 crore for construction of a 102 km Jowai – Ratacherra road in East Jaintia hills district.
Gadkari made the announcement at the inauguration of Shillong Bye-Pass and the Umiam-Jorabad four lane highways, the two important roads in Meghalaya, held in Ri Bhoi district on Friday. “I declare the Jowai-Ratacherra with a length of 102 km and (estimated) cost of 630 crore (in Meghalaya),” Gadkari said while inaugurating the roads.
According to Gahkari, the project is the lifeline for the district in Meghalaya. “I assure you that we will start this project within three months period,” he said.
The project in East Jaintia Hills is one among the new projects sanctioned by the centre at a cost of Rs 5,130 crore for improving the road network in the north eastern states.
Gadkari also announced Rs 5,130 crore road projects for Meghalaya, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh to improve road network in these states.He dedicated the two important roads in Meghalaya to the nation, which also connect Tripura, Mizoram, lower eastern Assam and parts of Manipur with the rest of the country.
Highlighting the importance of these new road networks for economic growth of the region, Gadkari said, “I declare the Jowai-Ratacherra with a length of 102 km and (estimated) cost of 630 crore (in Meghalaya).” While the project also is the lifeline for eastern Meghalaya district of East Jaintia Hills, he said, “I assure you that we will start this project within three months period.”
The Shillong By-Pass is built at a cost of Rs 226 crore and the 62 km-long four lanes from Jorabad to Barapani at a cost of Rs 536 crore.
Gadkari further informed that for Nagaland, the government has sanctioned three projects adding the DPRs have been prepared and the work is slated to start after three to four months.
The three projects for Nagaland includes the four-laning of Dimapur-Kohima which is 48 km, the four lane construction of the 35 km Dimapur By-pass and the 17 km-long Kohima By Pass.
Gadkari said the cost for construction of the 100 km road in Nagaland is estimated to cost Rs 2000 crore.
Gadkari said, “I am assuring that the Rs 2000 crore project will start within four months where road progress development will start for Nagaland.”He also announced a new project for Arunachal Pradesh costing Rs 2500 crore and is expected to start within two months time.- By Our Reporter
