SHILLONG, JUNE 9: Meghalaya urban affairs minister Ampareen Lyngdoh assured the assembly that further delay in the releasing of Special Urban Works Programme (SUWP) funds will be avoided. She said delay for releasing SUWP funds for 2013-14 was because of the model code of conduct during the district council election as well as Lok Sabah elections.
Responding to the query by Tura legislator John Leslee K Sangma on Monday, Lyndoh informed the house that the actual amount sanctioned by the department during the year 2013-14 for the development of urban areas in Garo hills include- Rs 15.36 crore for West Garo Hills, Rs 1.84 crore – East Garo Hills, Rs 1.18 crore – South Garo Hills and Rs 1.38 crore – North Garo Hills District.
On the status of the eight schemes implemented by the department, Lyngdoh said the schemes under Infrastructure Developmental Schemes (ID) Environmental Improvement of Urban Slum Schemes (EIUS), 13th Finance Commission Award and construction of Residential & Non Residential Buildings have been completed, while the remaining are in progress.- By Our Reporter
