SHILLONG, JULY 8: The state COVID-19 tally stood at 52 on Wednesday after four more persons including three BSF jawans were tested positive while another two have recovered from the contagious disease.
“4 more persons have tested positive for COVID19 in Shillong. 3 BSF personnel and 1 patient who has come from Tripura for treatment to NEIGRIHMS,” Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said in his twitter handle.
Addressing media persons, Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War said the state now has a total of 52 active cases.
These include 34 in East Khasi Hills District ( of 25 males and one female are from the BSF, two males from Air Force and other 6 are 4 males and 2 females), 14 in Ri Bhoi District (8 males, 6 females), 3 in West Garo Hills (2 males, 1 female) and 1 in East Jaintia Hills.
He said South West Garo Hills is with zero cases after two patients have recovered on being tested negative for the virus today.
As on Wednesday, a total of 22, 221 samples were sent for testing of which 21,902 were found to be negative while test results of 220 are awaited.
Asked, the DHS said all the 52 active cases in the state are ‘asymptomatic’ and are on the road to recovery.
“Our job is to prevent the spread as much as possible and to prepare for clinical care in case we have to treat severe cases. We are concentrating more on signs and symptoms and we have full confidence on our health teams,” he said.
According to Dr War, the Community Health Centres (CHCs) and Public Health Centres (PHCs) across the state are prepared to handle any kind of eventualities that may arise due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Stating that prevention is the only cure against coronavirus disease, the DHS also appealed to all citizens to religiously follow the cardinal protocols of maintaining social distancing, wearing masks and hand hygiene keeping in mind that the transmission rate of the virus is very high.
Meanwhile, a total of 20,693 people have returned to the state from different parts of the country and abroad.
