Forest items fee increased

SHILLONG, OCT 3: The cabinet decided to revise the rates of export fees on different forest produces which is will increase the revenue generation of the state. “We have approved the revision of export fees on minor forest produces,” Forest Minister Prestone Tynsong told reporters after the cabinet meeting on Thursday.

Tyngson  informed the government has decided to revise the rates on the different items after a span of over 15 years since 1999.According to him, the government has been able to generate revenue to the tune of Rs 6 crores annually.

“With the new revised rates in place, we expect that the revenue generation will be double,” Tynsong said. The different minor forest produces, under the new revised rate are Round Timber from Rs 500 to Rs 5000, Sawn Timber – Rs 200 to Rs 2000, firewood – Rs 200 to Rs 2000, bamboo – Rs 200 to Rs 1000, broomstick – Rs 60 to Rs 500, cane – Rs 300 to Rs 5000 and dhoop – Rs 300 to Rs 5000.- By Our Reporter
