TURA, AUG 19: The District Sports Office of West and South West Garo hills is all set to start grassroot football centre at Tura and Ampati for interested boys and girls aged between 7 – 11 years to receive coaching in football. In a press statement on Friday, District Sports Officer Jasper P Marak said, “Grassroot football is simple, fun and easy to organize and it provides children the much needed access to the game of football in a safe, enjoyable and positive environment”.
He informed that the centre is being created to generate maximum interest in children about football and tap the best football talents available in Garo hills. “The children will be able to learn the nuances of the game, so that in future the players with talent and aptitude can become start footballers from the state and represent the country”, he added.
The talented players identified through the centre will be also admitted to the youth academy, which will be fully residential and all expenses of education and sports training will be borne by the academy.
The centre at Tura will be located at Dikki Bandi Stadium, Dakopgre and Students Field at Ampati. The coaching will be imparted two days in a week – Friday and Saturday. Initially only 50 boys and 50 girls will be admitted.
Admission forms for the course will be available at district sports office at Tura and at Indoor Stadium, Ampati. Last date of submission of forms has been fixed for August 26.-By Our Reporter
