SHILLONG, FEB 18: The flying squad in West Khasi hills seized Rs 13 lakhs from a vehicle belonging to one B Kharsyntiew on Sunday. The vehicle and the money have been seized by the police and investigation into the movement of the money and its destination is underway.
Confirming about the detection of the cash that was being transported within the vicinity of Nongstoin, the district headquarter of West Khasi hills, Meghalaya Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) P Naik said that he was still waiting for detail reports from the West Khasi hills deputy commissioner and district election officer F Kharlyngdoh.
However, Naik said that initial report he got from West Khasi hill was that the money belong to a supporter of a Congress party. But, he cautioned, that it would be improper for him to say to which Congress candidate B Kharsyntiew is close with and for what purpose the Rs 13 lakhs was being carried.
Naik said only after he receives a detail report on the seizure of the money will he be able to give an authentic picture.
Attempt to talk to Kharlyngdoh about the seizure proved to be futile as he refuse to give details saying that he was busy. This website tried getting the details five times throughout the day, but he either did not answer the call or when he did he replied, “ I am busy, please call later.”
At about 6.30 pm this website tried again to get details but Kharlyngdoh said, “I have just come out from the video conference with the Election Commission, please call later as I am with some officers.”- By Our Reporter
