Shillong, Nov  27: More than 40,000  people including students’ community participated in the state wide ‘signature campaign’ organized by the Federation of Khasi – Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) as a mark of protest against the recent assistant teacher job scam unearthed by the CBI naming top notch politicians.

People were seen thronging to put their signatures on the wide sheets put up in the different parts of Shillong including Khyndailad, Motphran and other places.

“We have also organized such campaigns in all the district headquarters of the state,” FKJGP president Jo Marwein told reporters Tuesday.

He said, the step has been taken as a second phase of the organization’s to oppose such illegal activities like tampering and manipulation of marks in the recruitment process to the posts of assistant lower primary school teachers in the state.

Stating that the campaign is successful, Marwein said, “This shows that people will never accept such illegal and corruptions practices.”

Marwein, however, informed that the organization demand of removing the then Education Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh and actions against those involved in the scam still stand.

“We demand that the High Level Scrutiny Committee constituted by government to speed up the process of reviewing the matter and ensure that those deserving candidates are not deprived of their rights to be appointed as teachers.” Marwein said. – By Our Reporter
