SHILLONG, DEC. 17: The Federation of Khasi-Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) on Monday sought the intervention of governor R. S. Mooshahary in securing the removal of urban affairs minister Ampareen Lyngdoh from the cabinet for her alleged involvement in the education job scam during her tenure as the education minister.
In a petition to the governor, the FKJGP requested him to direct chief minister Mukul Sangma to drop Lyngdoh. “The chief minister should be directed to drop Lyngdoh from the cabinet due to the charges of tampering and manipulation of scores-sheets of assistant LP teachers labeled against her,” said the petition.
The education scam unearthed by the CBI, the organization felt, had not only touched the very foundation of justice and impartiality in decision making, it has also eroded the confidence of the people in the state machinery on matters relating to appointments and recruitments in government departments. “The serious charge made in the CBI report against the then education minister for her direct involvement in the scam, including tampering of score-sheets of deserving candidates, is a grave one,” said the petition signed by FKJGP president Joe Marwein.
Marwein regretted that despite calls from all quarters for her resignation, the minister has sought to justify her alleged misdemeanours. The government, he said, should display some semblance of accountability and sense of justice by dropping the minister till she is cleared of all charges, and also to ensure the ongoing scrutiny into the scam by the High Level Committee was free from any political or outside influence.
