SHILLONG, FEB 22: UDP chief and Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh is one among the top five re-contesting MLAs who have declared maximum increase in assets.
This was stated by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and Meghalaya Election Watch, which have analyzed the self-sworn affidavits of 61 re-contesting MLAs for the 2023 Assembly polls.
Metbah Lyngdoh from Mairang constituency has declared maximum increase in assets with an increase of Rs 59.04 crores, from Rs 87.26 crores in 2018 to Rs 146.31 crores in 2023.
The other four includes Health Minister James K Sangma, Urban Affairs Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma and his wife Dikkanchi D Shira.
Assets of James Pangsang Kongkal Sangma of NPP from Dadenggre constituency has increased by Rs 45.12 Crores, from Rs 7.94 Crores in 2018 to Rs 53.06 Crores in 2023.
Assets of Sniawbhalang Dhar of NPP from Nartiang constituency have risen by Rs 38.93 Crores, from Rs 6.41 Crores in 2018 to Rs 45.35 Crores in 2023.
Assets of Dr. Mukul Sangma of AITC from Songsak and Tikrikilla constituency have shown an increase of Rs 14.62 crore, from Rs 13.59 crore in 2018 to Rs 28.21 crore in 2023.
Assets of Dikkanchi D Shira of AITC from Mahendraganj has increased by Rs 14.61 crore, from Rs 13.59 crore in 2018 to Rs 28.20 crore in 2023.
Out of the 61 re-contesting MLAs, assets of 54 MLAs (89%) have increased ranging from 5% to 2284% and assets of 7 MLAs (11%) have decreased ranging from -1% to -78%.
There were a total 68 MLAs elected in the Meghalaya Assembly 2018, Out of these 68, 8 MLAs were won in the bye elections during between 2018 to 2021.
The average assets of these 61 re-contesting MLAs fielded by various parties including independents in 2018 was Rs 6.97 Crores.
The average asset of these 61 re-contesting MLAs in 2023 is Rs 12.31 Crores.
The average asset growth for these 61 re- contesting MLAs, between the Meghalaya Assembly Elections of 2018 and 2023 is Rs 5.33 Crores.
Average percentage growth in assets for these 61 re-contesting MLAs is 77%.
Out of 61, 28 are from the NPP, 12 UDP, 10 AITC, 7 BJP, 1 INC and 1 VPP.
