SHILLONG, APR 24: Two scooties stolen in separate incidents on April 23 were recovered from Pdengshakap village by West Jaintia Hills Police, who also detained five persons, four of them minors, after an investigation that began with a call from Ialong Civil Hospital.
Addl. SP (DSB) Crescency W Lyngdoh in a statement issued on Friday said police received telephonic information on April 23 from Ummulong resident Wanphida O. Laloo that his scooty (ML-05 W-6877) was stolen from the premises of Ialong Civil Hospital, Jowai.
Following CCTV footage analysis,” police identified a suspected vehicle and launched “intensive patrolling, she said.
The vehicle was intercepted, and its five occupants were taken to Phramer Traffic Cell, WJH District, for questioning. Four of those detained are minors.
During interrogation, one child in conflict with law (CICL) disclosed that the stolen scooty had been taken to Pdengshakap village, West Jaintia Hills.
A police team moved to the village and “successfully recovered the stolen vehicle after observing due legal formalities.”
The same day, Bastanroy Mawthoh of Nongmensong, Langkyrding, lodged a complaint that his Yamaha Ray ZR, Matt Black with golden rims (ML-05 AF-5040), was stolen at around 2:30 AM. Police said that scooty was also recovered from Pdengshakap village.
Both vehicles have been secured at the Phramer Traffic Cell “for necessary legal action,” the release added.
Urging public caution, the ASP said, “Citizens are advised to remain vigilant and ensure that their vehicles are properly secured at all times. Any suspicious activity should be reported immediately to the nearest Police Station or by dialing 112.”
