SHILLONG, JUN 19: A fish pond constructed under the Meghalaya State Aquaculture Mission was inaugurated on Wednesday at Mawten village in South West Khasi hills district.The pond was inaugurated by the additional deputy commissioner of South West Khasi hills district KL Nongbri in the presence of MS Sangma ADC, Mawkyrwat BDO A Nongbri, the fishery officer O L Passah, village elders and other officers.
Nongbri lauded the Meghalaya State Aquaculture Mission for providing financial assistance to many fish farmers in the district. He also advised the farmers to abstain from holding fishing competitions in government aided ponds as this can interfere with the production of targeted fishes from these ponds.
Nongbri emphasized that pond management must be a daily affair of the fish farmers and also appeal to the public to take part in conserving the local fish population of the area.
Later Sangma released fingerlings to the pond.- By Our Reporter
