SHILLONG, APR 8: Seven wooden houses were gutted by fire on Tuesday forenoon at Barapathar. The fire broke out at around 11.30 am and police said it started from a wooden house of one Sachin Thapa in the second floor and gradually spread to other adjoining houses.
East Khasi hills SP M Kharkhrang said nobody was inside the house when it caught fire which spreads to other adjoining houses. As all the houses were made of wood the fire spread rapidly to adjoining house and in the process seven houses were gutted.
Kharkhrang, however, informed there was no loss of life but huge properties were damaged. He said the fire was doused after the fire brigade arrived in the scene and the fire fighters brought the fire under control.
Kharkhrang also informed that the police have instituted an inquiry to find out the cause of the fire and whether there was any foul play. He also said that the damaged caused to properties are still be assessed.- By Our Reporter
