SHILLONG, APRIL 11: A complaint has been registered under The Representation of the People’s Act against BJP leader and candidate for the Shillong parliamentary seat Sanbor Shullai for ‘misconduct’ inside a polling station here on Thursday.
The first information report (FIR) was filed by the Returning Officer of Shillong constituency and the presiding officer of polling station at Sankerdev College, state’s chief electoral officer Fredrick Roy Kharkongor told reporters.
The case against Shullai was registered under section 132 of The Representation of the People’s Act for misconducting himself with polling officials.
Kharkongor said the BJP candidate had refused to listen to the presiding officer even after being politely requested not to give media interviews inside the polling station premises.
It was informed such cognizable offence is punishable with imprisonment up to three months or fine or both.
However, the case will be investigated and action will accordingly be taken, he said.
