FIR against Impersonator filed

SHILLONG, JAN 22: Yunus Nongrum is under the police scanner for impersonating and using the Khasi surname even though both his parents are non-Khasi.

The Civil Society Women Organisation (CSWO) president Agnes Kharshiing has filed a police complaint Tuesday against Yunus for falsely claiming to be a Nongrum even though his mother’s name is Jamila Khatoon and father’s name is Lalmia Mo.

Kharshiing said in the complaint,  “It has come to our notice that Yunus has been impersonating and using the scheduled tribe title of Nongrum and cheating the Khasi people particularly the Nongrum clan. Neither of his parents are tribals, yet he has managed to obtain the title Nongrum.”

The complaint even pointed out that Yunus has also managed to obtain an EPIC in the name of Yunus Nongrum by mentioning his mother’s name as Jamila Nongrum, while his mother has an EPIC in the name of Jamila Khatoon.

Yunus, according to the complaint, has used the Nongrum surname even in the  driving  license from the DTO office, Shillong.

Kharshhing demanded police investigation into this misuse and action as per the law against the impersonator.- By Our Reporter
