SHILLONG, JULY 24: Meghalaya police arrested as many as fifty-nine army job aspirants who produced fake domicile certifcate during the army recruitment rally in Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in Polo on Wednesday.
East Khasi hills SP (City) Vivek Syiem told reporters that the police arrested the accused as they were found by the army producing forged domicile certificates.
The recruitment rally started from Monday at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Polo.
Syiem revealed that most of the arrested army job aspirants hails from Balia district of Uttar Pradesh. He also informed that another 40 aspirants who had their name registered for the recruitment did not turn up for the rally after the arrest were made.
Vivek said, “Investigation is on the matter.”
Army Director Recruiting Office Colonel M Chopra said the army doubted the domicile certificates because a large number of people from Uttar Pradesh had produced certificates from Nagaland.
Colonel Chopra also said following investigation on their part some of the arrested job aspirants confessed that they paid Rs 15,000 to procure the documents.– By Our Reporter
